I love to start often with a dark palette and canvas as everything beyond that point is an illumination and a revelation. It’s the deep dives into the dark recesses of the imagination that I often find the most fruitful and rewarding.

This piece was created whilst travelling through India and was a way of passing time on long train journeys. Starting with an underwater inspired background it was an exercise in adding lighter colours and seeing what would emerge from the deep. Partly I feel this was I wish to feel cooler and refreshed as I was suffering with the Indian heat! I love rich colours anyway, but the vibrant colours I’d see daily on my travels there definitely fed into the scheme. It wasn’t long before the forms began to take on a jellyfish textures and aesthetic as inspiration. The light details and tendrils were added to heighten the dynamics of the composition.
